This brochure was revised in July, 1970, based upon the Social Security Act as amended in December, 1969. At the time of this latest revision Congress was considering a wide variety of proposed changes including liberalization of benefit levels, automatic adjustment of benefits keyed to the cost of living, expansion of the scope of persons covered in the Medicare program, increased tax rates, and raising the maximum amount of annual wages subject to the Social Security tax. The student using this brochure is advised to obtain from his local social security office information on any amendments made to the Social Security Act after July 1, 1970.
